There are many things to know when you are talking about Asian interior design, and this is especially true when you are looking at this in the context of the environment in Singapore. You need to understand how this is going to be affected to the expect of this design in a whole as there is no such thing as one dimensional interior design and we can look at how trends have affected asian design or even how it is going to evolve in the near future.
Singapore started to home modernisation phase quite a long time ago and you are going to look at the colonial design which is a big feature in any homes. Now because of this, colonial design does not necessarily mean just classical roofs and sorts of things like classical furniture, but they can of course mean things like how the room is arranged, the patio area, the use of wood and of course, the grand scale of some of the older houses in Singapore. But of course, today, we are not discussing on the finer aspects of how Asian design came about, but more so, where it is not today, and we can safely say that Asian design has taken a more contemporary take in this day and age, and some might say that it has been drowned out by a modern design imperialism that seemed to have dominated the skyline of the design industry.
Modern in this sense means more use of white and clean elements rather than the normal cluttered aspects of Asian design. Landed properties in Singapore have many hybrids almost everywhere. They have taken the best of the east and merged it with the practicality and almost level headed design of the West and what you have is not really a loss of identity, but the birth of a new one that makes sense in many senses of the word tob Asian Interior Design. Asian design and its new modern hat is moving in many ways of direction and that is what we need to know. Asian design is any design, a fabric and template that is ready for change in more ways than one.
